Today I want to introduce you to the characters who appear on the pages of A Time of Proving. The characters are one of my favorite aspects of this book because they each have a life and voice of their own. Time would give out on me to talk about all of them, so I’ll focus on the main characters.

Jase Hoffman is a man with a mission. He’s determined to clear his reputation of the shame that clings to it, but doing so could be a difficult task. He admits that his past makes him appear guilty. Now he’s out to prove his innocence.
However, it doesn’t help that he ran away from his family and hometown four years ago. That breach of trust will take a while to recover from.
And his tendency to jump into fights for the sake of an innocent might be just, but the circumstances don’t always leave him in a favorable light. Sometimes bullies can become enemies with their own agenda.
It will take some careful navigating if he hopes to restore his honor and his family relationships. Success is his only option. He has just one chance to make things right, and if he can’t do so, he’ll find himself far more lonely than before trying. And worse, he could lose his opportunity to marry the girl who has caught his eye and forfeit his chance to start a family of his own . . .

Miriam Locklin has her own set of worries. All she wants is to be with her orphaned younger siblings, but circumstances have torn her miles away from them. Now she only wishes for a home where her family can be together once more.
That means keeping focused on the goal and not yielding to distractions. Even if one of those distractions has a lovely pair of brown eyes and can play the fiddle with a master’s touch. Even if he’s worked his way deep into her heart by his sweet friendship.

Mix in a pair of twin brothers jockeying for attention, a desperate flirt, a boy hiding behind his swagger, and an enemy with his own plans . . .
To quote Miriam,
“Arithmetic had never been her strong suit, and she couldn’t determine what the sum of that would be.”
To quote myself,
“I would read a book like that.”

“There’s plenty of drama and suspense here, but there’s a lot of comic relief too. Mentink’s witty banter and writing style are great for a smile any time…What is really sweet, though, is the romance. There is nothing unwholesome about this relationship, and it unfolds in such gentle, committed ways. If you tend to shy from romance that takes your mind places you don’t want it to go, this book will be a wonderfully refreshing discovery. And if romance is your standard fare, this book delivers all of the sweetness and none of the spice.”
