I love stories. I suppose that’s why I’ve become rather obsessed with dates in the last year–historical dates, that is (no, actual dating has nothing to do with this). Writing novels set in the 1800s keeps me ever on the lookout for a new fact that could change my characters lives, or at least add a little depth to them. So, I flip open book covers to see what year they were published in, I look up names to see when they first came into popular use, and I search to see what songs were popular when. You never know where you will find new inspiration for a story.

Today I want to introduce you to the book Bluebird on the Prairie by Tasha Hackett. I’ve known Tasha for a while, and usually we run into each other at events where we are each promoting our books. Also, as a matter of fact, we both live in Stromsburg, so I’ve had people ask me before if there is something in the air or the water that creates authors. I can’t claim to have done any testing, but I rather doubt that’s the case. I guess both of us just discovered something good.

Have you read Settle My Heart yet? Today I’m excited to share a little bit of the story behind the book. I’ve answered all the common questions I get asked (including the big one – am I going to write another book? And no, no, no, don’t cheat by scrolling to the end to find the answer. You’re just going to have to wait). If you haven’t read the book yet, it’s all right. I made it my goal not to include any information that will ruin the book for anyone waiting to read it or still in the middle of the story. So you can thank me for not including the question my dear brother asked me about the ending; Caleb would be the one to ask difficult questions.

Given that I’m a writer, it probably comes as no surprise that I love to read. My room is lined with bookshelves containing history books, writing information, biographies about famous people, and my favorite: fiction, the best of which is historical romance. The accumulation of books is what happens when you have friends with books they’re looking to find a home for and when the only gift you ask for on birthdays and Christmas is books. I’ve had friends who have commented that my room feels more like a library than a bedroom.
