A Book Review

Anyone who’s a reader knows that picking a favorite book is almost impossible. But I do know that Karen Witemeyer is my absolute favorite author, and of all her books, I think Short-Straw Bride is my favorite. At least, that’s the way things sit for right now.

If you haven’t had a chance to get a hold of this book yet, I absolutely recommend that you do! It’s bound to grab your attention from the first page, so just make sure that you begin reading on a day when you have plenty of time to read. Oh, and maybe make sure your next couple days are clear, too. I’m warning you, this book is impossible to put down and will keep you pinned to your seat to the very last page.

A Little Bit About Short-Straw Bride:

Short Straw Bride by Karen Witemeyer

No one is allowed to trespass onto Archer land, but twelve-year-old Meredith Hayes does just that and comes face to face with the very oldest and scariest of the Archer brothers, Travis. Determined to keep his younger brothers safe and his land defended, Travis refuses to let anyone get too close to him–but what is he supposed to do with the young girl with vivid blue eyes who gets hurt on his land?

Twelve years later, Meredith is preparing to marry Roy Mitchell, the man her aunt and uncle have chosen for her, when she overhears a plot against the Archer brothers. Unable to think of them being driven off their land, she sets off to warn them–but her warning could have farther-reaching consequences than she would have guessed.

There’s only one solution to salvage her reputation, but it looks nothing like the fairytale Meredith had envisioned. No woman wants to have four brothers drawing straws to see who will have to marry her. Is it too much for her to hope that Travis will be the one stuck with the short straw? And if he is, will he ever see her as anything other than the bride he drew an unlucky straw over–or is that how he sees her?

Short-Straw Bride is sweet story with a beautiful message of what true love looks like as it takes root and matures. Travis and Meredith will have you laughing, maybe even crying, and you will definitely be cheering for them as they explore their deepening relationship.

The very worst thing about finishing the book was realizing that their story was over. But don’t worry, Short-Straw Bride is only the first book in the Archer Brother series, so be sure you don’t miss the sequel, Stealing the Preacher! Just so you know, it’s a fantastic story as well.
